The Body Shop project involved the refurbishment of their Westfield Warringah Mall store, situated in Sydney's Northern Beaches. The aim was to modernise the fit-out while staying true to The Body Shop's branding and ethical commitment to the environment. This was achieved by using sustainable materials such as timber, cardboard, glass, and Plasticiet solid surface panels. Plasticiet is a Dutch company that produces 100% recycled solid surfaces designed for interior use made from plastics that would have otherwise ended up in landfills.

The shop front features bespoke glass windows inspired by the curves found in The Body Shop logo. These curves allow passersby to peer into the store, providing a glimpse of the intriguing ceiling feature and the abundance of a terrazzo-like material that complements the various shades of green joinery. As you step through the arched doorway, soft linen fabric ceiling waves create a sense of delicacy and calm within the store, offering respite from the bustling mall. The linen moves gently and naturally with each motion, allowing downlights to shine through while remaining discreetly hidden.

Plasticiet is used for the small entry display pillars and the central display sinks, where customers can try out The Body Shop products. This solid surface material replicates the appearance of a terrazzo slab. It is an ideal choice, as it is durable, lightweight, and sustainable

The store features custom timber wall display joinery finished with Dulux paints in various shades of green, in harmony with The Body Shop's branding. The wall joinery includes horizontal timber floating shelves and distinctive floating open display cases for showcasing The Body Shop's products. Below the floating shelves, custom floor cabinetry with brass handles provides storage for additional products. The bespoke point-of-sale desk is constructed using cardboard cylinders for sustainability. On top of the cylinders are acrylic containers used to display 'add-on' products, enticing customers to purchase smaller items at checkout. The countertop is crafted from Plasticistic.

Key customer touch-points in the design communicate the brand’s focus on sustainability. A touch-screen kiosk allows customers to complete a 'skin quiz' and receive product recommendations based on their skin concerns. The store also features a refill station with large, recycled mason jars repurposed for refills, enabling customers to refill their empty containers in-store at a discounted price. The Body Shop's design is cohesive and perfectly complements the brand's values.
